Dr Nicolas Wiegand
Nicolas Wiegand is Co-Head of the firm’s dispute resolution group, Head of APAC International Arbitration and Managing Partner of the CMS Hong Kong office.
Nicolas is specialised in international commercial and investment arbitration with a focus on corporate, post M&A, joint venture, commercial, sales and distribution and IP disputes as well as the energy, pharmaceutical, healthcare, automotive, construction and infrastructure sectors. He is particularly experienced with arbitration in or in relation to Asia, specifically Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia as well as other South-East Asian jurisdictions.
Nicolas has so far been involved in more than 140 international arbitrations under all major arbitration rules (mainly ICC, HKIAC, SIAC, KCAB, JCAA and DIS but also LCIA, DIAC, ASA, VIAC, SCC and others) as well as in ad hoc arbitrations. He also acted in numerous investment disputes (ICSID, UNCITRAL) and disputes involving state and state-owned enterprises.
To date, Nicolas has sat as arbitrator in 37 international arbitrations mostly in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. He is on the panel of arbitrators of numerous international arbitral institutions. The substantive laws applicable to the arbitrations he has sat in include, amongst others, Korean, Japanese, Hong Kong, Singaporean, German, Swiss, U.S., Mongolian and Sri Lankan law.
